Why the Scotti?
Scotti was the name given by Romans to the irish raiders who harried the coasts of Roman britian. In Irish tradition the name comes from scota, the mythical daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh who it is believed founded the line of ancient Gaels. The Scotti lent their name to the Scottish; To the Nova Scotia Fairy in the Stillwart Chronicles; to The Invaders of Ireland, the Milesians, whom Áine Battles in the Dreams of Áine 's Blood. My own name comes from them, which was given to me from my mothers family, who descended from Ireland.
The Tuatha Dé Danann's
The Dananns, or Tuatha Dé, are part of the mythical cycle of Ireland. The early people's of Eire had no written language, but they did have a strong oral tradition maintained by the olam. Irish monks recorded these stories, providing us with the Lebor Gabála Érenn or The Book of The Taking of Ireland. This book is an important source for the mythology of the Dananns.
the Dananns invaded from the sea. They destroyed their ships so that they could not leave and fought the Fir Bolg for control of the land. They ruled Ireland for some hundreds of years, until the Milesians came. The Danann's are Often imbued with magik powers, and are believed to be the origin of some Irish faery lore.
Amergin
Amergin was a son of Mil Espaine. together with his seven brothers and nine uncles, they invaded ancient Ireland to seek revenge for the murder of Amergin's uncle, Íth. They battled the three Tuatha Dé Danann high kings, Mac Cuill, Mac Cecht and Mac Greine. Amergin as olam of the Gael (Milesians), acted to set the rules of engagement for the main battle. The Milesians agreed to retreat beyond the ninth wave of the island, a magical boundary. They Then attacked upon a signal. The Danann Druids brought forth a storm to drown the Milesians, and many of the invaders were lost, but Amergin sang forth to the land, The Song of Amergin, to dispel the magik. The Milesians were triumphant, though only three sons of mil survived. Each son of Mil killed a high king in single combat.
Amergin crowned his two surviving brothers, Eber finn and Erimon as high kings at tara. He himself became Olamh Érenn, or chief Olam of Ireland. Within a year Erimon defeated his brother Eber, and two years later Erimon killed Amergin.
